Prime Minister Imran Khan shot in leg during protest march



 Islamabad, Pakistan — Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan suffered a gunshot wound to his leg after militants opened fire at a rally in Wazirabad. Mashwani told Al Jazeera on Thursday that Khan was shot in the leg but was not in danger. Another politician, Faisal Javed, and six of his others, including his Khan, were also reportedly injured in the attack. 

Khan, who led a protest march in the capital Islamabad and called for early elections, was taken to a hospital in Lahore.


The identity of the shooter, who was arrested by police at the scene, was not immediately revealed. Neither group has claimed responsibility for the attack.


Local media footage showed Khan, with one leg bandaged, being moved from the truck to another vehicle with the help of his team of security officers.


Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif issued a statement condemning the incident and urging the authorities to immediately launch an investigation.


Khan will start his long march from Lahore on 28th October and will reach Islamabad on 11th November.



His government was ousted in a parliamentary no-confidence vote in April this year. Since then, Khan has held rallies across the country calling for early elections.

Since being ousted in a parliamentary vote in April, Khan has held rallies across Pakistan to stir up opposition to a government struggling to pull the economy out of the crisis left by Khan's regime.


Khan was planning to lead a motorized caravan slowly up the Grand Trunk his road northwards to Islamabad to gather further support before reaching the capital.


"I want you all to attend. This is not for political or personal gain, not for overthrowing the government...this is to bring true freedom to the country," Khan said on the eve of March. said in a video message.
